Kareen Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible: The Ultimate Manual of Moms-To-Be is the memoir of Kareena Kapoor, published in 2021, but as per a HD City report on May 13, 2024, she has received a legal notice for using the word Bible in the title of her memoir. The petition was filed by an advocate Christopher Anthony in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, India. The court sought an explanation for using word Bible in her memoir title. In addition to it, a legal notice was also served to book seller.
The book talks about pregnancy in detail, such as diets, fitness routines, self-care, and so on. It appears to be like a friend's manual to guide you through 40 weeks of pregnancy. The memoir is written to create awareness among young people about how to deal with pregnancy issues. Such kinds of memoirs and self-help books need encouragement and appreciation. On the contrary, it receives a legal notice and a ban on the sale of the memoir.
Since the legal notice is served by the HC for using the word Bible in the title of the memoir, the accused word deserves an insightful explanation. The dictionary defines the word Bible as a sacred scripture for Christians, comprising the Old Testament and the New Testament. Therefore, the word in question does not seem to be justified for the title of a memoir. Before jumping the gun, knowing one connotation of a word is not reasonable enough in this context. The theological meaning of the word is that God reveals himself through spoken words by his beloved son, Jesus Christ. Here, again the accused word fails to deserve its place in the title.
Now let’s go through the literary meaning of the word Bible in order to find its suitability in the title of a memoir. The word Bible originates from the Greek word biblos, which literally means book. The book is basically a series of manuals to conduct yourself by keeping love and compassion at the forefront of your behavior. Going by this meaning in the literary context of the work, of course, the sacred word in question could be used anywhere freely without demanding any approval from anyone.
A word cannot be patented. No one can claim authority over the word and its usage. If you go deeper into the origin of the world Bible, it has many lateral meanings as well. The Bible comprises the text that will help humankind live together on this earth amicably. And the memoir in question also shares experts’ voices and hands-on experience regarding the complexities of pregnancy. The notion and intention of the book are for the benefit of women, the accused word deserves its place in the title by considering all the connotations in mind.
Everyone wants his or her religion to become a global religion, but no religion will offer you the flexibility to use religious words for global meaning. It is an elitist view of religion that demands a swift revision of its meaning and application in present-day circumstances.
